Press: Kamau Amu Patton

Chris Fitzpatrick reviews Kamau Amu Patton for ArtSlant San Francsico. The article, "Kamau Amu Patton(s) and/or 'Kamau Amu Patton'(s)," discusses the inaugural exhibition of Alphonse Berber Gallery in San Francisco:

"Like any foreign agent, Patton’s relative difference points out the homogeneity of his surroundings, and this difference is intensified by the preternatural form he gives to themes and modes of production that are so familiar in the Bay Area—sonic experimentation, abstracted video, perceptual environments, subcultural references, optical illusions, geometric elements, and so on. Through his sometimes science-fictive manner of distortive filtering, Patton’s work seems more unfamiliar not only because it is, but also and especially because it sounds like it is going to be familiar until it isn’t."
